MGM Resorts Delivers Superior Commerce Experience for its Traveling Guests

The Goal

MGM Resorts International (“MGM”) required a digital payment solution that could integrate with their M Life Loyalty program and work across its enterprise as an omni commerce platform to support the more than 28 MGM integrated resort properties. As part of the omni commerce guest experience they needed a sophisticated commerce solution for their online casino, poker & sports betting playMGM mobile app where they can bet or spend from their hotel room, laying by the pool or even from the many MGM resort restaurants.

The Challenge

The system at the time was a manual process of waiting in line, putting cash on deposit with the cashier and for the winnings the guest would have to request a check or drive to the casino. As part of the playMGM mobile app solution they wanted a fast and convenient enrollment with no credit check, a seamless funding experience, and the ability for instant deposit of winnings, so money is available immediately to be spent at any MGM resort property. A majority of MGM’s business is from traveling tourists that often bring cash with them on the trip. Cash poses a risk of being lost or stolen so having a solution to mitigate this risk is desirable.

The Solution

In collaboration with MGM’s platform provider IGT, Sightline engineered a personalized Play+ mobile bank account solution for MGM based on a Play+ MGM Branded program, where guests seamlessly signup through the PlayMGM app, funds are easily loaded in real time through Sightline’s specialized proprietary network (“SPAN”), and deposits of winnings could be made instantly available to guests on their prepaid MGM Play+ cards. And for those guests that historically brought cash, the Play+ program is FDIC insured and Regulation E protected delivering peace of mind for MGM and their valued guests in the event the MGM Play+ Discover card is lost or stolen.

The Results

The playMGM program was successfully launched in May 2017. MGM Resorts hotels are popular, and often have 90 percent hotel room occupancy, and the lines to place wagers and cash out in the sports books at these casinos can be extremely long. The playMGM Play+ app takes a few minutes of time to sign up for but can materially lessen the amount of time spent standing in line. Nobody visits Las Vegas to stand in line and this allows tourists more time to enjoy the hospitality amenities.

Once signed up, the playMGM enabled MGM Resorts’ M life Rewards members to place bets on their mobile devices using. digital deposits and withdrawals worldwide form Sightline’s Play+ platform. Tourists no longer had to wait to return to town to cash their winning wagers and locals do not have to make a trip to The Strip to collect it.
